Wet Carpet Drying & Restoration
Carpet is usually salvageable; the pad underneath usually is not. Pad is a sponge that holds several times its weight in water and dries far too slowly to beat mold, so the standard approach is to save the carpet by floating and drying it in place while replacing the pad. Whether that works depends almost entirely on the water category and how many hours have passed.
Common causes we see
- Clean water spreading from a burst line or overflowing appliance
- Storm water or drainage entering through a door threshold
- Slow leaks behind a wall wetting carpet along the perimeter
- Extraction from an upstairs loss soaking a stairway and landing
Signs you need Wet Carpet Drying now
- Carpet that squelches or releases water underfoot
- Darkened, cool patches with a defined edge
- Delamination — the backing separating from the carpet face
- A sour smell developing within a day or two of getting wet
Situations we handle every week
- The carpet has been wet for three days and you want to know if it can be saved
- A cleaning company extracted it and it still smells
- Water reached the carpet in three rooms and you cannot afford to replace it all
What happens if it is left alone
- Wet pad becomes a microbial reservoir within 48 hours and no amount of surface drying reverses it
- Tack strip and subfloor beneath the carpet stay wet and rot even after the carpet feels dry
- Carpet backing delaminates once it has been wet too long, which cannot be repaired
- Odour that survives drying is a reliable indicator of growth in the pad or subfloor beneath
How we handle wet carpet drying
- 1Classify the water before touching anythingClean water means the carpet is a candidate for in-place drying. Grey water usually means the pad goes and the carpet is assessed. Black water means both come out.
- 2Weighted extraction in overlapping passesOperator-weighted extraction removes several times more water than a free-floating wand, and it is the single biggest factor in whether the carpet survives.
- 3Pull the pad and check underneathThe pad is removed and the subfloor and tack strip are read. Water hides beneath carpet more thoroughly than almost anywhere else in a house.
- 4Float and dry the carpet in placeThe carpet is disengaged at one edge and floated on air movers so both faces dry, while the subfloor is dried at the same time.
- 5Sanitise, re-pad and re-stretchOnce dry, the carpet is treated, new pad is installed and the carpet is re-stretched and re-seamed so it lies as it did before.

How this differs from similar services
Wet Carpet Drying vs Hardwood Floor Drying
Carpet is forgiving and cheap to re-pad. Hardwood is unforgiving and expensive, needing specialty mat systems rather than air movement.
Wet Carpet Drying vs Structural Drying
Carpet drying is a component of a wider structural dry-out — the subfloor and walls still need their own attention.

Wet Carpet Drying — frequently asked
If the water was clean and we reach it inside about 48 hours, usually yes. Grey water makes it a judgement call based on carpet type and value. Sewage or flood water means it is gone regardless of condition.

Structural Drying
Structural drying is the science half of restoration: removing bound moisture from framing, subfloor, plaster and concrete after the free water is gone. It is not a matter of putting fans in a room — equipment counts are calculated from cubic volume, class of loss and material type, then adjusted daily against psychrometric readings until the building matches its own unaffected baseline.
Hardwood Floor Drying
Cupped hardwood is not automatically ruined. Wood cups because the underside is wetter than the top, and if the moisture is pulled out through the boards quickly enough the planks often flatten back out as they equalise. That requires negative-pressure mat systems that draw moisture up through the floor — ordinary air movers blowing across the surface do nothing for a wet subfloor.
Emergency Water Extraction
Extraction is the single highest-value hour of any water loss: every gallon pulled mechanically is a gallon that never has to be evaporated out of your building. Crews arrive with extractors already loaded and pumping starts before the paperwork does. The goal is not to finish the job on day one, it is to stop the loss from getting bigger.
Dehumidification Services
Dehumidification is what actually removes water from a building — air movers only push it into the air. This page covers dehumidification as a standalone service: chronic indoor humidity, damp enclosed spaces, post-loss moisture control after another contractor has left, and temporary humidity management during construction or storage.
